Lizette Barrera / Director

BIO

Lizette Barrera is a writer/director and producer whose films have played at festivals and networks worldwide, including her HBO previously-licensed short films MOSCA (FLY) and ¡CÓME!, the ESPN-licensed short documentary film MR. PASTOR JONES, and her short film CHICLE (GUM), which had its world premiere at SXSW. She received the 2020 AUSTIN FILM SOCIETYs Development Grant for her upcoming feature CHICLE (GUM) and participated in 2023s Austin Film Societys Artist Intensive hosted by Richard Linklater. She is also a recipient of WARNERMEDIAs 150 Grant, the 2021 SFFILM Rainin Grant, a past participant of the 2022 GOTHAM MARKET for the anthology feature UNTITLED TEXAS LATINA PROJECT, and has been a showrunners assistant to Kat Candler. 

In addition, Lizette is a WEBBY and TELLY award-winning branded content and commercial director and producer who has worked with EMMY-award-winning production companies such as Prelude Films, Lowtown Studios, and TWLV Midnight.

She received her MFA in Film Production at the University of Texas at Austin and has previously served as a Senior Lecturer and Adjunct Assistant Professor at The University of Texas at Arlington.
